Working with School Psychologists: Building Collaborative Relationships to Support Youth

Dates

Description

Collaboration among providers is critical to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of youth, and the school psychologist is one of the most overlooked and misunderstood sources of such support. This presentation will provide insight on the processes in which school psychologists engage and the areas of expertise they offer. Presented by a school psychologist with extensive experience collaborating in both educational and clinical settings, this presentation will include applicable and realistic guidance in developing collaborative relationships with school psychologists in ways that support genuine dialogue and meaningful collaboration for youth.

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Articulate two areas of expertise that school psychologists provide within collaborative relationships focused on youth.
  • Provide an overview of at least two key aspects of special education processes that lead to support for youth.
  • Distinguish between helpful and unhelpful approaches and expectations when working with school psychologists.
