Psych Office Hours: Education & Case Consultation - Session 1

Many of you are already familiar with AzAAP’s ongoing emotional and behavioral health ECHO series. We are now expanding our resources to offer a second monthly educational series: Psych Office Hours: Education & Case Consultation. This series aims to provide shared learning experiences, group consultation, case-based discussion, and cross collaboration between psychiatrists and primary care providers. Providers attending the session will have the opportunity to build their knowledge and skills on how to manage behavioral health topics from a psychiatrist’s perspective. Psych Office Hours: Education & Case Consultation series adopts a peer-learning approach where active participation and questions are welcomed during each session.

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

• Identify 3-4 main questions from a patient's case that can be used as teaching points
• Demonstrate how a psychiatrist works through a differential and establishes a working diagnosis
• Explore evidence-based medication treatment options, discuss their indications, side effects and risk vs. benefits to help providers consider next steps of treatment for mental health concerns
• Review non pharmacologic interventions- i.e.- psychosocial interventions, family dynamics, school communication, lifestyle modifications- for symptom management practical to primary care
• Increase provider preparedness by 70% re: medication intervention for mental health symptoms
